Terrorism is an issue known as a worldwide threat of violence motivated by political and religious views. There are numerous contributions to this issue, and the main causes terrorism are the internet and social media. This issue can also be caused by cultural, religious, and political beliefs and individual reasons. Due to these causes, there are consequences that follow which create damaging negative effects. These effects include an extreme number of deaths and injuries, an increasing raise in financial costs, and tons of property are destroyed, leaving people homeless and traumatized. Our writers will create an original "Terrorism Is Caused By Multiple Factors" essay for you Create order Terrorism is caused by multiple factors, such as the internet and religion and political beliefs, which motivate terrorist organizations to cause massive destruction. Terrorism is not considered a local issue but is also a worldwide issue that could happen anywhere. Some factors include . Terrorism occurs worldwide, however there are many countries, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Nigeria, that are more affected compared to others. In 2014, there were 44,490 fatalities worldwide (Roser et al.). 2014 had the greatest number of fatalities from terrorist attacks compared to all other years up to 2017. While 2014 had 44,490 fatalities, the most recent year, 2017, on the other hand, had 26,445 fatalities worldwide (Roser et al.). There is a visible decrease between the two years, showing that the amount of deaths have lessened. However, among of all the countries, Iraq has the deaths. Iraq does not only have the most deaths, but they also have the greatest number of injuries, striking at 16,804 injuries in 2014 and 4,916 injuries in 2017 (Roser et al.). Compared to 2014, Iraq seems to have three to four times less injuries in 2017. While Iraq had 16,804 injuries in 2014, other countries had far less injuries: Afghanistan had 5,111, Nigeria had 2,283, Pakistan had 3,388, India had 776, China had 478, the United States had 19, and the United Kingdom had 4 (Roser et al.). In 2017, Iraq had 4,916 injuries, meanwhile Afghanistan had 6,027 injuries: Nigeria had 1,031, Pakistan had 3,388 injuries, China had 76, the United States had 932, and the United Kingdom had 301 (Roser et al.). Afghanistan was the only country in 2017 to have more injuries than Iraq, while the other countries listed had less. The number of injuries from 2014 and 2017 decreased in Nigeria and China, remained the same in Pakistan, and increased in the United States and the United Kingdom. According to the map in 2017, the top three regions with the greatest number of terrorist incidents are Iraq with 2,466, Afghanistan with 1,414, and Pakistan with 719 (Roser et al.). However, of all countries, Iraq still remains to be the top nation most affected by terrorism. Iraq is more affected contrasted to other nations because Iraq is a small, poor, developing country that lacks special resources in their economy (Bandyopadhyay et al.). This means that Iraq is not as advanced in technology and equipment, so it is easier for terrorist groups to attack this nation, while it is harder for terrorist groups to attack a larger and richer economy. The effects of terrorism are excruciatingly devastating, leading to associated costs which include deaths, financial costs, and loss of property. In a terrorist attack, thousands of people are either kidnapped or killed. Terrorist attacks can also cause serious indirect harm to neighboring countries and their economies, and there are even worse effects in smaller countries with developing economies, such as Israel and Colombia (Bandyopadhyay et al.). When there is an attack, economic resources, markets, transportation, restaurants, and owned property are striked and destroyed by bombers (Bandyopadhyay et al.). This outcome causes an extreme loss of property, causing a tremendous raise in financial costs. The raise causes a decline in production and advancement and trade reduction. This result affects the neighboring countries as well because the neighboring countries would have to help the affected country by providing money to pay off the raise in insurance. For example, in the 911 Attack, the Twin Towers of New York collapsed, killing approximately 2,996 people, estimating $80 billion in losses (Bandyopadhyay et al. ; Sawe). This highlights the amount of damage a terrorist attack is capable of doing. To prevent the threat of terrorism, strong and lasting solutions are required to ensure the safety of citizens. Governments of different nations and international groups can help raise awareness or create strategies to tackle terrorism. Many countries are working on different solutions to help contribute to decreasing terrorism. One country includes Turkey, involving the Turkish government and the Prime Ministers Chief Adviser Akdogan. When the Turkish government stresses on developing a lasting solution to lessen terrorism, Akdogan states the goal is not simply to manage the problem on a temporary basis, but to bring it to a final and permanent solution (Turkish Adviser Outlines Plan for Tackling Terrorism). Akdogan indicates how terrorism should not be taken as a trivial problem and should instead be thoroughly looked into to solve this problem. Despite terrorism being a problem in the last thirty years, Akdogan remains determined to create better solutions. This leads to Akdogans six steps to achieve goal: being determined, not taking any shortcuts, getting more involvement and support from citizens, maintaining common sense, and staying hopeful but being realistic about the outcomes (Turkish Adviser Outlines Plan for Tackling Terrorism). These fundamental steps can be used to put an effect into Akdogans goal. As each step is completed, the issue of terrorism will gradually decrease. International authorities are also involved with minimizing the extreme amount of terrorist attacks. One international group is the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, a national security organization which ensures to help protect and support the country by clarifying threats and ways for protection. The FBI lists three ways for people to protect themselves: 1. Remain aware of surroundings; 2. Refrain from oversharing personal info; and 3. Say something if you see something (Terrorism). It is essential for the people to fulfill these steps to stay safe in their environment. Since the FBIs number one priority is protecting the United States from terrorist attacks, the FBI devises different methods for protection that people from all over the world can follow. Overall, terrorism is an extremely dangerous threat that causes many negative effects toward thousands of people in affected countries. This issue is caused by political or religious beliefs, the internet involving social media, and individual reasons or emotions. Although terrorism is increasing in some parts of the world, there are solutions to reduce this problem, including being aware of the environment, getting more involvement and ideas from citizens, and gaining support from international or government groups. Explain Factors Influencing Ageing, and Explain Ways in...

P1 explain theories of ageing. In this assignment I will be explain 4 theories and link it to a scenario that was given by the teacher in class. Sociological/psychological theories; * Disengagement theory * Activity theory Biological theories: * Genetically programmed theory * Disposable soma theory * Disengagement theory This theory Cumming and Henry in 1961 suggests that when Andy is to get older he will withdraw from the society in preparation for death and this could be because the society is becoming less likely to engage with and include older people. Therefore this could lead Andy to feel lonely and not wanted in society itself. Cumming and Henry argued that this was a consequence of people learning their†¦show more content†¦However, others argue that society prevents other people for maintaining major activity in older age which keeps them independent. For example, if the older person was to go to a care home when he or she is incapable to look after themselves in the health care settings encourage the activity theory by ensuring the services user(s) have activities to keep them motivated and interested in others around them throughout the day. * Genetically programmed theory The Program Theory has a theme of a biological clock or life pacemaker for each person. In order to affect this process of aging throughout the organism, the pacemaker tissue or organ must have a widespread interaction with all organ systems. In 1992 Kola demonstrated that genetic programming can evolve an agent that that took in to account multiple sub-goals. Aging, though it is usually defined as a biological process, it is also the gathered development of change with time. Aging is a continuous, complex and dynamic process that begins even before birth and ends with death. Unless death occurs at an early age, all humans grow old and experience the effects of the aging process. The process of aging does not

Aims and objective of the study: The overall aim of this particular study is to collect valid and reliable information experiences, attitudes and also the expectation of the both the administrative staffs and support staffs and find out the factors on which the promotion of the staff of Clarks shoes depends (Jauregui et al. 2015). This study aims to collect data to investigate the selection process within the retail company. The research had the following specific objectives (Messnarz et al. 2014): To understand the current recruitment and promoting process within business of Clarks To understand the employee selection process in retail industry To examine the benefits of promoting staffs in retail industry Purpose of the study: This assignment uses methodology to analyse of the impacts of the selection process in the context of the retail staffing. It will also examine the whole selection process for retail staffing (Yu, Chang and Chou, 2014). It mainly focuses on the staff turnover of Clarks shoes and also how this affected by the promotion of staffs (Kang and Hustvedt, 2014). Literature review As mentioned by Abraham (2014), every employee can be motivated to perform in productive manner. On the other hand, selection process in retail business is based on internal sources and external sources. Two of the motivational strategies adopted in Clarks retail industry are; different performance based rewards and appraisals (Hitt et al., 2009). Apart from this, Clarks provide their employees with training regarding their new implemented system. Brannan et al. (2011) stated retail industry is based on two elements, that is, customers and employees. Every retail organization is having different promotion and selection procedure within the business of their staffs (Adams and Deakin, (2014). Clark is famous for retailing of footwear and the numbers of employees are more than 16,000. So to make every employee work as a team, motivational strategies are very important. As mentioned by Adams and Deakin (2014), some of the internal sources required in selection process of Clark retail ind ustry are as Transfer process of employees Giving promotion in position and designation Providing retirement option to employees Internal advertisement regarding vacant position and others Selection process of Clark needs to be effective regarding all process, that is, strategies, policies and new employees. Apart from this, selection processes help Clark to select the most deserving employees (Adams and Deakin 2014). The selection process is based on qualification, skills and number of vacancies. In context to this Sellitto (2015) mentioned, every selection process in retail industry have their own advantage. Some of the major advantage of selection procedure is regarding proper placement process (Adams and Deakin, 2014). On the other hand, it also helps in conducting recruitment in a systematic manner. In context to this Cheese (2013) stated, selection in retail industry can only be effective, if qualification and skills are analyzed properly (Paiva et al. 2015). Every position has their own set of skills and qualification requirement. For example, the skills and qualifications required for shop floor employees in retail are different from shop manager. The major skills required for team leaders in Clark retail is as; manager, they should be good in decision making. As mentioned by Delaney, Burchielli and Connor (2014), team leaders play the role of backbone in any organization. Their main role is to influence and motivate employees to work properly. Apart from this, they are responsible for analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of their team members. This analysis process helps them in the motivational process. As stated by Ewing (2013), every employee has a different set of skills and expertise. They also have different strengths and weaknesses. So, team leaders should always analyze their strengths and weaknesses and areas of expertise (Cheese, 2013). Apart from this, team leaders should also have good thinking abilities which help in problem solving (Litchfield, 2014). Also team leaders should have a good knowledge of the retail industry working process. The area and national management at Clarks retail works to develop their business activities. As mentioned by Ewing (2013), strategies differ region by region, that is, every store has different set of strategies. These strategies help in promoting their business and increasing their profit. On the other hand, national management strategies help in promoting business in national market (Turner, 2013). Marketing and advertising strategies help to promote their business. The promotion strategies regarding national employees are also different. The performance appraisal and reward system is decided as per the store location. In this context Hitt et al. (2009) stated, promotional strategy regarding employees welfare are based on store location and sales. These strategies help organization to motivate their employees to perform better. In addition to this, these strategies help in increasing productivity and profitability. As mentioned by Higson (2013), if strategies are planned properly, then they will help the organisation in a positive manner. On the other hand, the skills and qualifications required for shop floor level employees are different from top level managers. Store floor level employees helps in increasing sales and the profitability of the Clark organization (Hitt et al., 2009). Apart from this, store floor levels have responsibility regarding the management of in house (Branstetter et al 2014). That is, they are responsible for managing finance, selling, employees and others in their store. In this context Linsenman and Kingaard (2011) commented that shop floor employees play a very important role in sales activities. They influence customers or the store visitor in purchasing. The major skill required for good shop floor employees is influencing power as influencing or convincing power will help them to increase their sales. On the other hand, they should also have knowledge about the customers choices and demands (Nair et al 2014). As mentioned by Pride and Ferrell (2014), Clarks management pays a part in managing all activities and strategies. That is, they are responsible for planning and execution of strategies and policy. Apart from this, the management of Clarks is responsible for maintaining balance between the business activity and employees (Turner, 2013). Management should have core knowledge about technical and communication systems. The management of Clarks help in solving problems and in the decision making process (Robbins and Coulter, 2009). The strategies decided by management of Clarks help in increasing their business and profitability. On the other hand, management is also work for improving the brand image of the company (Rhodes, 2014). As commented on by Sawford, (2014), the zero hours contract system adopted by Clark affects their employees and the selection process. Zero hour contract help Clark to provide their employees with variation in working time and wages. The zero contract system affects the attendance model of staff, as every employee start choosing their own time for working. The selection process of working time affects the attendance management system (Shimomura and Kimita (2013). On the other hand, management also may find it difficult to manage the workforce, which affects the motivation process. However, some of the management staff of Clarks retail is not in favour of zero hour contracts, as they think that it may de-motivate employees to work and which would further affect the selection process (Geppert, 2014). It is known that zero hour contracts means hiring workers with no guarantee to do job. Due to that, employees may not be giving hundred percent in the work (Powell et al 2014). Methodology Ethical approach to study: The basis of the implementation of the relevant methodologies the study it needs to prove all the formulated theories on the basis of the right or the wrong (Clark et al. 2014). Each component of the research methodology is equally important to conduct the whole research in right way that each factor can be addressed efficientlyIn the other words, (Paiva, Antnio and da Silva, 2014). The researcher has tried to adapt suitable research techniques for each component of the study. The choice of research techniques are based on the research prospects and objectives. In this research, both qualitative and quantitative analysis has been selected to evaluate the factors responsible on the basis of the selection process with the help of retail staffing. The data has been analysed in the next chapter in detail (Varley, 2014). The researcher here employed inductive research approach which supports the researcher to establish the findings which fulfilled the objective of this research work. The use of inductive research approach also helped the researcher to conclude something new based on the findings of this study. Data collection approach: Mainly research methodology is categorized into the basic two parts: qualitative and quantitative approach (Lesk, 2014). Basically, the quantitative analysis of the data is done in the case of the analysis of the huge numbers of the respondentsTherefore, matching with the topic, the researcher has chosen positivism philosophy, inductive approach, descriptive design and primary data collection process. Both the quantitative and qualitative analytical method has been chosen where non-probability sampling has been followed by the author in selecting respondents for the survey (Lesk, 2014). In this study, the researcher has conducted the quantitative analysis of the data on the basis of the questionnaire survey. Hence, both the quantitative and the qualitative analysis of data are more appropriate in doing the study. The researcher has already gives the description of the various theories which are mainly needed in doing the carry out of the research methodology (Econometrics and Garden, 2015). For doing the research, the data collection method includes both the primary and the secondary collection of data. To do the collection of the secondary data the methods of doing the interviews are used in both the structured and the semi structured methods of the interviews. Here, the researcher has initiated to relate the findings and conclusion with the objectives mentioned at the beginning of the research. Keeping the relationship between these two segments throughout the whole research indicates the dedication and attentiveness towards the concerned areas of all the components required for the study (Mid Staffs whistleblower slams use of gagging payments, 2014). Hence, the research design is appropriate for the current research. The researcher does the preparation of the questionnaire in the way it has no personal type of the question which can do botheration to the respondents and also can do the deviation of the results from the basis of the desired results (Muravitsky, 2014). Findings Introduction The elementary aim of this chapter is to represent the complete information about the factors that influence the promotion of the Clarks Business on the staff(Muravitsky, 2014).As the data analysis includes both qualitative and quantitative analysis, this chapter particularly deals with the results of quantitative analysis where all the data were collected through open hand questionnaire. (Messnarz et al. 2014) pointed that data analysis helps a researcher in implementing the theoretical knowledge in the practical application. However, (Muravitsky, 2014) pointed that data analysis involves complexities and limitations as well such as data manipulation, lack of genuineness and others. Thus, a process of crosscheck is observed via data analysis in a research work (Jauregui et al. 2015). Based on the data gained in this chapter, the researcher will try to gain information related to the topic and will accordingly analyse the findings to add a validity in the process of data collections. Respondents considered for process of data collection is customers and managers of Clarks shoes so that more concerned, specific and detail information is extracted with the particular research work (Shatnawi et al 2014). Quantitative Analysis In the present section, staffs of Clarks shoes will be considered for quantitative analysis so that the researcher can understand the influence of promotion of the staffs of the Clarks business and their choice of skeleton for a product(Yu, Chang and Chou, 2014). Number of respondents involved in the quantitative section are 60 as the others were not properly filled in so were discarded from being the sample of research study (Pantano, 2014). Q1. How long you have been the employee at Clarks? No of respondents Total respondents Response % Last 6 months 18 30 60% Over 1-2 years 9 30 30% Over 3-5 years 3 30 10% Total 30 30 100% Findings and analysis: As illustrated in the above chart, maximum of the respondents are opting for last six months with 60%. At the same time, 30% of the respondents have mentioned that they are working with Clarks over 1 2 years and 10% of the respondents have mentioned over 3 -5 years. It is the fact that Clarks tries to focus on the attention of the employees and recently has started focussing on the various promotion schemes which helps in doing the retention of the employees. Employees due to the basis of the promotion schemes are getting more inclined towards the organisation. Initially, the organisation focussed on the marketing activities irrespective of much focus on branding of the products. However, with modernisation and higher level of competition, the organisation needs to provide the various schemes of promotion and the bonus so that it can do the attraction of the large numbers of the employees (Arando et al 2014). Q2.Do you think in depth skill and knowledge are required for retail work? No of respondents Total respondents Response % Yes 24 30 80% No 6 30 20% Total 30 30 100% Findings and analysis: The above figure has explored that 80% of the respondents are agreed with the concerned topic. It is the fact that promotion helps in understanding the needs of the employees in a more definite way that brings more customer delivery service within Clarks. This is the reason; employees try to identify the approaches effective enough in doing the retention of the employees and avoiding switching to other brands. Clarks tries to adopt branding strategy so that a communication bridge is enabled between the organisation and the customers. Customers are able to observe the attempts that help in marketing of the product in a much effective manner (Ewing, 2013). On the other hand, doing the promotion of the employees it helps in doing the creation of the awareness for the organisation that also promotes and attracts the new employees also. Clarks via branding try to satisfy the needs of the customers in a more efficient and better way. Branding is adopted within Clarks as a continuous proces s that helps in identifying the issues or the challenges as a mode of promotion and improvement (Salleh et al 2012). Q3. Do you think management skills can be gained through? No of respondents Total respondents Response % Work experience 5 30 17% University study 4 30 13% You are born with these skills 5 30 17% A mixture of all the above 16 30 53% Total 30 30 100% Findings and analysis: The above graphical presentation has explored that more than half of the respondents believed a mixture of work experience, study and inborn skills will help to gain management skills. It is the fact that though the people have born with capabilities, studying several subjects supports them to improve their deficiencies. At the same time, during work tenure, people have got opportunities to employ their capabilities and gain knowledge through improvisation. In the long run, it will support them to attain managerial skills (Bidwell, 2013). Q4. How far you satisfied with the promotion opportunity within Clarks? Options No of respondents Total respondents Response % Strongly satisfied 12 30 40% Satisfied 12 30 40% Neutral 4 30 13% Dissatisfied 1 30 3% Strongly Dissatisfied 1 30 3% Findings and Analysis: Around 40% of the respondents are satisfied and strongly satisfied with the concerned topic. However, neutral and dissatisfied was selected by 13% of the respondents in both the section. Apart from that, strongly dissatisfied was option made by 3% of the respondents. As the promotion helps in doing the staffing of the employees so that it can do the proper enhancement of the employees which helps in doing the retention of the employees of the organization (Winiewski and Rakus, 2014). Doing the promotion of the employees helps in ensuring the quality preference within customers that also promotes goodwill of the organisation. This whole chapter mainly deals with the results of quantitative data analysis as well as the results of the analysis. In the first part it also includes the graphical presentations of the collected responses. Based on this graphical representation and also analysis results, the findings and the interpretation are summarised (van den Heuvel et al 2014). Qualitative analysis It is the fact that Clarks is successfully able to generate all the employees for the concerned organisation within the market of UK. Among other retailing firms, Clarks tries to focus its attention on the consumers until the age of 35 who can be influenced on the basis of style and consciousness. Consumers are identifying the concepts emphasised by the organisation, Clarks (Winiewski and Rakus, 2014). Brand and its value help in attracting the employees at a much better rate. Employees find the quality and the standard of the organisation quiet satisfactory hence they are inclined towards its products. However, few customers are not satisfied with the brand value imparted by the organisation as they feel Clarks can introduce much better concept of branding. Apart from that brand value of Clarks helps in positive word-of-mouth communication that also enables higher employee satisfaction among the customers. From the context of the data analysis and discussion, it is concluded that in this research project it does the highlights of the existence of the relationship between the retail staffing and the promotion of the staffs of the Clarks shoes (Abraham, 2014). The whole discussion of the selected topic gives the proper understanding of the retail staffing. In doing the linking with the objectives which is mainly based on the collection process of data analysis, the researcher try to do the identification of the link in between the selected objectives and on their practical approach (Sart, 2014). Results and conclusion In this chapter it mainly deals with the conclusion which is basically obtained from doing the data analysis and also the discussion. However, the researcher does the discussion of the conclusion in doing the examination of all the collected both the primary and the secondary information on the basis of the according objectives of the organization (Safe staffing group broadens focus to community, 2014). Therefore, in this chapter it ensures the successfulness of the project on the basis of the data analysis and the interpretation of the results. Recommendation: Recommendation 1: The critical factors which are mainly responsible in doing the development of the promotional strategy of the staffs of Clarks shoes. Why This Stay-at-Home Mom Chose Freelance Writing

Right now my twins are in their cribs sleeping for the night and Im in my office updating my blog. Im able to dedicate 1-2 hours after they sleep to work on building my brand as a freelance writer. Being a mom to two year old twins while trying to make it as a freelance writer is no easy feat. Even though I have been doing this for a short time, I can say with assurance that freelance writing is the way to go for me and my family. I Didnt Plan on Being a Freelance Writer at All In fact, when my husband proposed doing some freelance jobs online I looked at him and said, Are you kidding me? Virtual Assistant? And get paid with virtual dollars? He laughed at me and told me that there are many freelance jobs available like blogging or writing articles. I couldnt imagine making money off blogging or even writing articles. My husband, an entrepreneur who runs his own e-Commerace business, had me write fluff articles for his business, many years ago on a range of topics like allergies, pet products, back to school ideas and baby items. I remember writing quick 300 word articles on What Color Should you Paint Your Nursery? or Do Seasonal Allergies Ruin Your Day? I stopped writing for him because it didnt interest me at the time nor did I feel like I was making it as a writer. I was just helping out my husband after work and on the weekends. Thats what I thought freelance writing was when he mentioned it 1 year after I had my twins. A moonlighting job just to earn some quick money. Mommy Brain was Ruining My Mind! I always imagined  being a mom to be a wonderful experience where you play and have fun all day with your child. You have a restful night, wake up to a happy chatter bug and spend the morning having fun. Mealtimes were no problem, she will eat anything you give her. Need to do a few chores? No problem, here, play with your doll house while mommy cleans the bathroom. Time for arts and crafts! Lets make a fishbowl and glue fishy crackers on it! Yay! Rainbows and unicorns every day! Time for bed, nighty-night! I honestly thought this. I never knew having children would be difficult and all consuming. I also never envisioned   having twins, but I was fortunate enough and blessed with a beautiful boy and girl almost two years ago. Im also fortunate enough to stay at home and raise them   with family nearby to help and a husband that works from home to call on when I need   a hand. When the twins were around 15 months old, I felt I finally had a grasp on what I was doing. I didnt need as much help from my husband or family members and I developed a routine that was working. The only thing that bothered me was my lack of adult interaction. I barely talked to other people that werent moms about other things that didnt include our children. At that time, though, I   wouldnt have been able to have a coherent adult conversation on lets say the rise of gas prices. I was suffering from mommy brain. All I thought about were things like how to get my twins to sleep better, how to get my picky eaters to eat something besides toast and fruit, and why wont they nap more than 60 minutes at a time. I also had the song, Baa Baa Black Sheep on repeat in my mind and stopped using words like resonate, justifiable or myriad. Instead, I was using words like, okay-dokey, poopy and upsy daisy. I loved my children, but I needed to get out of Mommyland and into BigAdultLand. The only problem was day care for two toddlers is expensive and I couldnt bear to be separated from them for more than 4 hours. Actually, I couldnt let someone else take care of them since Im a huge control freak. Put Your Coffee Down and Write I knew I didnt want to go back to work as a Special Education teacher at an elementary school, but I also craved grown-up interactions. I started researching freelance writing and it looked more appealing than before. I learned it was a way to Stay home with my children Contribute to our finances Set my own hours and pace Give me the freedom to run errands and tend to the house while still working So I decided to pursue writing. I created Innovative Ink and worked on writing my website content. I looked at other freelance writers and how they marketed themselves and where they were published. Some freelance writers I connected with are: Lauren Krom Kristi Hines Katie M. Anderson Alicia Rades Not all of them are moms, but I liked their style of writing, how they branded themselves in their niche, and how they developed their social presence online. I also read freelance writing websites as a way to learn more about this niche and how to be a better freelance writer. Take a look at some of them! All Indie Writers Be a Freelance Writer ProBlogger Copyblog Freelancer FAQs The Write Practice Be a Freelance Blooger I can adjust my schedule to squeeze in writing before my children wake up, during their naps and after they go down for the night. I can also write when I have child care for a few hours a day. It works. I can still do the daily house chores and run errands when necessary. Are you thinking about doing some freelance work? Metal vs. Mettle

Metal vs. Mettle Metal vs. Mettle Metal vs. Mettle By Maeve Maddox At one time, metal and mettle were alternative spellings for the material or substance a thing was made of. Classical Latin metallum had the meaning of mine or quarry as well as the substances obtained from them. Metal is a hard, shiny, malleable material like gold, silver, or copper that is used in the manufacture of tools or artifacts. It’s shiny, malleable, and it conducts heat. The word metal can be used either as a mass noun or as a count noun: Saucepan handles are usually made from wood or plastic because they don’t transfer heat as well as metal. (mass noun) Metals play a critical role in the creation of contemporary jewelry by affecting appearance, durability and cost. (count noun) Mettle derives from the same source as metal and was once used in the same way. Since about the 18th century, however, mettle has been reserved for figurative use. It refers to what a person is â€Å"made of.† Mettle includes character, disposition, and temperament. It is often used with the verbs test, prove, and show, particularly in sports writing: Bruins Marchand shows his mettle Djokovic must prove his mettle against Nadal on clay Young runners test their mettle during Hy-Vee runs Kelso showed his mettle and won by three-quarters of a length. Shakespeare uses the word in Macbeth’s sexist compliment to his wife after she berates him for hesitating to kill Duncan: Bring forth men-children only; For thy undaunted mettle should compose Nothing but males. –Macbeth, I, vii, 72-74. The adjective mettlesome describes a high-spirited, vivacious, lively person: In The Taming of the Shrew, Kate is Baptista’s mettlesome elder daughter. Mettlesome can also mean courageous: Là ¼ Kuang is fresh from his victories in the west, and his soldiers are vigorous and mettlesome.  Ã¢â‚¬â€œThe Art of War, XI. Applied to an animal, especially a horse, it means â€Å"lively, eager, spirited, frisky.† It can also be applied to an event: [The tennis players] delivered a mettlesome performance from start to finish, bringing the ultimate title under their names. Mettlesome from the noun mettle is not to be confused with meddlesome, the adjective that goes with the verb meddle, â€Å"to interfere.† Hillsdale College Chief Remark Pricks Meddlesome Bureaucrats How to Handle Your Meddlesome In Laws Meddle comes from a word meaning â€Å"to mix.† Meddlesome people mix in where they are not wanted. Discussion Questions week 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Discussion Questions week 3 - Essay Example Some of the managers were using free or personal Email addresses in business communication and he felt that this was unprofessional. Consequently, he ordered that all employees were only allowed to use Email addresses that included the company domain name and instituted a policy whereby other sites such as MSN and Yahoo would be inaccessible through the company server for the purpose of checking Email accounts. The forces of influence used to make this decision included his business background – he had formerly worked for a software company in which all Email addresses for employees were simple and consistent, his education – with his marketing background he believed that the ability to consistently â€Å"brand† the company would be a benefit, and his fledgling management career – he had only been general manager of the company for several months when the change was instituted and felt the need to exert his power. The campaign to rid of the company of personal Email addresses was instituted in an effective manner. Informative bulletins were sent out for the month prior to the change with clear instructions on how to communicate the change in Email addresses to existing clients who were used to some of the managers’ personal accounts. The managers themselves tried to exert an opposing influence by stating that this new policy would cost them customers who would continue to use the old Email addresses and resist changing to the new ones. These concerns were dealt with in a professional manner and the managers soon realized, with a proper communication campaign before the change took effect, that their clients accepted the new Email addresses. Ultimately, the managers’ discomfort was overcome through a creative process by the general manager in which the communication aspect of the problem became a learning experience in new technology and marketing methods. In the example given above, the

The learning transfer practices at Camair-Co Dissertation

The learning transfer practices at Camair-Co - Dissertation Example However, the behavioural as well as cognitive traits perceived by the learners should also be considered as vital in this context as these factors also have a substantial impact on the overall efficiency of the learning transfer process. Acknowledgements Firstly, I would like to thank all the employees at Camair-Co who offered their cooperation, understanding and time when I was carrying out my research. I also extend my appreciation to my friends and family for being so supportive while I was completing this study. Finally, I offer my sincere thanks to God, for giving me the strength, perseverance and confidence to make all this possible. Table of Contents (INCLUDE WORD COUNT) Chapter 1 – Introduction 309 words (300) 1.1 Background Camair-Co is the national airline of the Republic of Cameroon that is based in Douala. The company offers passenger and cargo transportation to visiting friends and relatives, Government, NGOs and traders (History, 2011) Camair-Co employs 438 perso nnel comprising of both national and foreign expertise. Subedi (2004) suggests that a diverse workforce can raise significant challenges for the organisation in the execution of its learning or training transfer process (Subedi, 2004). Within today’s competitive business environment, strong talent is critical to the success of organisations. Consequently, management must ensure all employees are empowered through training to effectively transfer knowledge and skills back to the work place. 1.2 Statement of the problem Training activities at Camair-Co include on and off the job training. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the transfer of learning is... The paper tells that the notion behind the transfer of learning contributes significantly towards making the workforce effective. 10% of the overall staff salary at Camair-Co is spent on developing capabilities through training, learning and other development initiatives. In the writer’s experience, the most successful organisations have consistently invested a lot of money in training and developing their people however, evidence suggests the value derived from the training spend is not as encouraging. Only 10% and 34% of skills and knowledge gained from training is still applied by employees on-the-job a year later. Given the alarming statistics by researchers and the large amounts of money involved, monitoring and closing any gaps between what is invested and what is returned is critical. According to Cree & Macaulay, transfer of learning has been referred to the process of earlier learning which influences improved performance or learning. The transfer of learning is said to entail skills acquisition and knowledge gained in training that is transferred back to the job, as well as maintenance of the learned material over a period of time on-the-job. Broad & Newstrom describe it as ‘the effective and continuing application, by trainees to their jobs, of the knowledge and skills gained in training – both on and off the job’. This concept is of particular importance among organisations that seek to ensure peak performance amongst individuals and the organisation. Rothwell & Sredi assert that the transfer of learning also facilitates the organisations in the development of competitive advantage.

An Analysis of Dylan Thomas “ Do not Go gently into that Good night” Essay

Dylan Thomas wrote this poem for his dying father, it   was published on December 16, 1952, along with six other poems in â€Å" In Country Sleep â€Å". The Poem is a villanelle. It is made up of five tercets, a unit of three lines of verse, followed by a quatrain, a unit of four lines of verse. It is a lyric poem. It makes of rhymes on every other line of the poem. Dylan also makes use of the repetition of a particular line to put his point across.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   â€Å"Do not go gently into that good night† is a passionate poem about fighting death. Dylan Thomas uses metaphors in describing the agony of death and how one must fight against it. He compares death to darkness, as a line recurring   points to this †Rage, rage against the dying of the light†. In this poem, Dylan Thomas talks about life, and reminds the reader why life is worth fighting for. He suggests images that call to mind, days in a life of   a man, when there was laughter and merriment,   as seen in such lines as these â€Å"Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight†.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The poem’s main theme is fighting for life. It is an impassioned plea to his father to cling on to existence and not be carried into the darkness. Dylan Thomas words reverberates in one’s head as he seems to plead desperately that life not be given up so easily.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The poem can also be applied in the lives of people who are not in danger of dying. It seems to call out to the living to live their lives to the fullest and not succumb to the darkness of ignorance and fear. This lyrical poem appears to be something a young person may write, for it is full of bravery and invincibility- much like what teenagers or young ones would feel. Dylan then uses the elements of age. A young person, full of life asks someone to hold on a little longer in the same way that he probably held vigil beside his beloved father.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Dylan’s seemingly simple poem is actually very inspiring because it holds a message of hope. It draws the audience in and then encourages them to examine their existence and ask if one is happy or contented. If not, then Dylan’s battle cry is more than enough to kindle a light in a reader’s heart. It is his proclamation of existence, his fervor to â€Å" Rage against the Dying of the Light† that is contagious and that enables him to engage readers and hold their attention and truly fight the darkness within and with out , much like how Dylan continuously did for his father, to whom this poem was written for.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   â€Å"Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night: Critical Overview. Technology In The Film Industry Essay - 1914 Words

Introduction The film industry has continuously changed since its inception due to rapid technology advancements. Camera technology has been a key factor that has influenced the growth of filmmaking. The first motion picture in the world was produced in the early 1880s, and the first public screening occurred ten years later. It didn’t take long for the quality of films to improve as new filmmaking equipment emerged. Ever since the first movie was produced, the film industry has been continuously changing in response to emerging filmmaking technology. Shooting with digital cameras tends to be easier as filmmakers can shoot more scenes in less time. Often, multiple digital cameras can be used on the same shot but in different angles which assists in reducing the number of retakes. Digital shooting allows filmmakers to shoot multiple takes and in different angles at fewer costs (Murray, 2012). With new steady camera equipment, the footage shot is more precise and intimate. This enhances the audience experience as the camera view is authentic. Also, the cameras save time wasted on reshooting the same scene. IT has also changed the way movies are shot particularly through application of film special effects. The film industry heavily relies on illusions to simulate imaginary events in a story (McClean, 2007). Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is another key technology that is applied to special effects to enhance films. CGI is mainly used in special effects to enable filmmakers to control the scenes instead of using many extra actors. This has simplified film production and reduced the costs incurred. A lot of movies especially those classified under fiction, action, and horror genres rely on CGI. Post-Production Previously, editing used to be a challenge for most filmmakers. Often, they relied on manual methods when filming to add effects to the films.
